WHAT DID WE DO? WHAT'S NEW
and CHANGED?

(reflection and description of event / activity)
EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
(include artifacts, photos, videos, drawings, sketches)
Today was a turning point in our entire groups perspective and approach to our issue. We worked on refining the many ideas we had into one larger, final picture. The idea itself was similar to a camping experience where the students and teachers would work together with their students to build tents, go in the woods on a hike, using the high ropes course to build trust, gathering wood for a fire, cooking their meals, playing, and overall having a wonderful experience. we got excellent feedback from our peers though our teachers had a different perspective. they saw a feat that would be too difficult to accomplish in the time frame we had, and they thought there would be teachers that would not want to attend this event. with this valuable feedback, we reformed our idea again, this time into something much more tangible. In order to have the teachers styles of teaching match the students learning styles, we are working on a survey. this survey consists mostly of preference questions that are designed to figure out how the students think and therefore can create an idea of what that students learning style is. aside from this, we would be implementing a check-in system, where the students would go and talk to their teacher for roughly 10 minutes about whatever they choose, whether it be classroom related or not; this would make the students feel more comfortable around the teachers and thereby making their classroom experience more enjoyable. Our third and final piece is one similar to our very first idea of having the student and teacher cook a meal together, but we have modified it so that it could fit it into the school day. we have it planned out that the teacher and students would meet on one lunch block per rotation and the students would collaborate to cook a meal for the teacher, while the teacher works to make a side dish for the students meals. Afterwards, the whole class, teacher included, would sit down and eat their meal together.

  1. Jackson, this is a very good blog post. Well done! Our group is also currently creating a survey to send out that will help teachers understand more about their students lives and how they learn best.

  2. I definitely understand your problem, and it feels like you are working towards a solution but are not quite there yet. My concern at the moment is that this is a public facing blog and it does not look professional. You don't capitalize the first words in your sentences! Also, you did not take the time to orientate the photos of your post it notes. Taken together, this looks like sloppy work. Please see me if I can help in any way on the tech side of things. There are a number of quick things you can do to turn this around.

  3. We were thinking about how incredible it would be to have an app that offered teachers a snapshot of a student with a few interesting facts about who they are and what they are passionate about. I found an interesting article in edutopia that sparked this idea. Please let me know if you are interested in hearing more.

  4. Today we made significant progress in my opinion. We kept trying to incorporate all of our idea into an idea and plan. More work needs to be done. Good jobs today everyone!

  5. Great JOB! I really like the idea of the students and teachers cooking together. This would create a bond between them, since they are making something together. The final part of this is they will eat their own meal together.
